Cynthia Devasia received her JD in June of 2002 from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she successfully pursued a concentration in general litigation. At Cardozo, Cynthia served as Editor-in Chief of the Online Journal of Conflict Resolution, Assistant Editor of the Cardozo Studies in Law and Literature and as a Legal Writing Teaching Assistant. She honed her legal skills while working as an intern for the Honorable Whitman K. Knapp of the Southern District of New York. Cynthia’s interest in labor law was first piqued during her tenure as Summer Associate at Koehler & Isaacs in 2001.

During law school, Cynthia worked to develop her negotiation and conflict resolution skills through Cardozo’s nationally ranked Kukin Program for Conflict Resolution. She served as a member of the distinguished Mediation Clinic, was the 2001 Winner of the American Bar Association’s Team Advocacy in Mediation Regional Competition, and was a founding member and Co-Chairperson of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Chapter at Cardozo. She has been recognized for her academic and extracurricular achievements through several scholarships and awards including the Monroe E. Price Alumni Scholarship, C. Bainbridge Smith Scholarship, Dean’s Scholarship and Stephen Eric Tannenbaum Leadership Award.

Cynthia’s labor law practice includes representation of union clientele before New York state and federal courts and administrative tribunals including the National Labor Relations Board, New York State Public Employment Relations Board and New York City Office of Collective Bargaining, in various labor law matters including duty of fair representation cases, improper practice and unfair labor practice charges. Her Kukin Program alternative dispute resolution skills have proven to be invaluable when negotiating collective bargaining agreements or participating in court annexed mediation. Her practice also includes ERISA litigation as well as the advice and counseling of trustees, administrators or other plan fiduciaries of employee fringe benefit fund to ensure their compliance with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, HIPAA and other federal laws. She is an active member of the New York County Lawyers Association, including the Law Related Education Committee and often lectures in various New York City schools about the legal profession and various topics of law. Cynthia is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law at Cardozo Law School, educating first year law students in legal writing, research and lawyering skills.
