Julie Pearlman Schatz

Julie Pearlman Schatz is an associate with the law firm of Koehler & Isaacs LLP, and a member of the firm’s labor and employment group. Ms. Schatz’s entire career has been spent representing the labor movement and its members. During law school, Ms. Schatz interned for the Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board and in the legal departments of various international unions. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Schatz practiced for fifteen years with a boutique union-side labor law firm in the metropolitan New York area. In that position, she represented unions in a variety of industries including, but not limited to, nursing home health care, retail, food service, building service, automobile service, warehouse distribution, construction and public sector employees.

Ms. Schatz specializes in the areas of public and private sector labor law and employee benefits. During her career, she has appeared before the New York State Public Employment Relations Board, the National Labor Relations Board, New York State and Federal Courts. She has worked with unions on all matters of union organizing, contract administration, negotiations, arbitration, employment practices and wage and hour matters, as well as their affiliated benefit funds to ensure their proper administration and the diligent collection of delinquent benefit fund contributions. Ms. Schatz has also represented clients in the defense of discrimination claims at the EEOC and various state human rights agencies.

Ms. Schatz has extensive experience in labor arbitrations. She has conducted hundreds of disciplinary and contract arbitrations during which she advocated for both her labor union and individual union member clients. She also conducted grievance handling training sessions for shop stewards and advised stewards and union representatives on the application of various state and federal statutes to unionized settings.
